Course Information for New Brunswick Early Music Festival 2011
Vocal Pedagogy (1 Credit)
Students will study breathing, phonation, resonance and registration as well as issues such as vocal health, vocal hygiene and voice disorders that arise from misuse of the voice.
Vocal Pedagogy Practicum (1 Credit)
Students will engage on a practical level with students from the real world, under faculty observation. Students receive feedback on teaching methods, preparation, technical vocabulary and repertoire.
Baroque Opera History (3 Credits-counts as Musicology Upper Level Elective)
An intensive course on the history of opera from the Florentine Camerata to the Enlightenment.
Solo Song LIterature (2 Credits)
An academic and historical survey of solo song from medieval to contemporary styles.
Vocal Ensemble (1 Credit)
Students will rehearse and perform selected repertoire from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods.
Vocal Performance Seminar: Baroque Opera Project (1 Credit)
Students will prepare their role before arrival in St Andrews, and engage in musical coaching and stage movement specifically related to the baroque period. STRICTLY BY AUDITION.
All classes can either be taken for college credit through Millikin University or taken as Adult Enrichment Credits (Auditing) at a reduced rate.
